Shelter’s ‘loudest’ dog goes silent when he sees his dad again

Goose is a hound dog that had been homeless three times. The staff at Adopt an Angel really had a soft spot for him.

Goose is a dog that sounds like a goose. Instead of barking and crying, his cries sound more like honks.

“He’s got a hound bark that could seriously win contests,” Adopt An ANGEL director Jill Jones told The Dodo. “He screams when he feels anxious and abandoned. If he’s quiet, it’s because he’s happy.”

Goose first came to Adopt an Angel as an injured puppy. He honked and howled after he was separated from his mom.

Goose’s mom actually bit his ear off when he went in for some food. So, Goose only has one ear.

“I have a real unique look to me, don’t you think,” his adoption ad reads.

But Goose was eventually adopted by a family. They, unfortunately, had to bring him back as an adult.

He had some tussles with the other family dog and then the family had a baby. The baby was born with a very rare skin disorder that forced the family to give him up.

“I was loved and my family was devastated to give me up,” the ad said.

He howled and cried and screamed for his family when they were gone.

But then Goose was adopted again. This time by a young couple. But after a short while, they ended up getting a divorce.

Goose ended up back in the shelter, honking and howling. The shelter says his cries were even louder this third time around.

“[His dad] moved to Florida and had no idea that Goose was here with us in North Carolina,” Jones said. “We didn’t know that he was out there, either.”

The staff at Adopt an Angel were determined to find Goose a good home with a loving family that would keep him forever.

A friend of Goose’s previous dad happened to come to the adoption fair and recognized Goose by his missing ear.

“He was like, ‘Oh my God! Goose, what are you doing here?’ and just started texting [Goose’s dad],” Jones said.

Goose’s dad had no idea he was in the shelter. Though he wasn’t able to take Goose himself, he felt that it was his duty to find him a good home.

“He was like, ‘Let me figure this out so that I can get Goose out of the shelter and bring him back,’” Jones said.

A few days later, Goose drove from Florida to North Carolina to get Goose. Even though Goose is the loudest dog at the shelter, he was really quiet when he saw his dad again.

“It was like he was saying, ‘I know that my people are here, so there’s no need to scream,’” Jones said. “‘I was only screaming for my people.’”

Their happy reunion was caught on video. Goose and his dad drove back to Florida, and he was taken to his dad’s grandpa’s house. Now Goose lives a very happy life playing in his fenced-in yard. He also gets to play with his dog cousins.
