Because I refused to give up my seat, a young couple chose to ruin my journey, but I had a plan to exact revenge.
A stranger and his wife came up to me as soon as I settled in.
“Hey,” he said. — Would you mind taking my wife’s seat? We recently got married, and she works in the economics.
It’s a fairly straightforward question. However, I had spent a lot of money on my seat. I replied courteously because I didn’t want to come out as rude:
Yes, no issue. However, my ticket was more expensive. If you pay the difference, which is only $50, I’ll switch.
The stranger’s grin disappeared. With his jaws clinched, he muttered:
You’ll be sorry you did this.
His wife returned to economy as he sat down.
That should be the end of it, I thought. Then the nightmare started.
He began to cough and sneeze loudly. Then, without headphones, he viewed an action movie on his phone. He made a loud chewing sound. Worst of all, he had his wife sit on his lap while they were flying.
She settled in and remarked, “We just want to cuddle a bit.”
While I attempted to maintain my composure, other passengers watched in shock.
I finally had enough and took action that permanently silenced them.
I gave the flight attendant a call.
She said, “You can’t bother other passengers, and you can’t put two people in one seat.” — Kindly go back to your designated seat. This one wasn’t even paid for by you.
There was finally quiet when the wife, who was obviously ashamed, returned to her seat. I was victorious. After giving me a few irate looks, the man put on his headphones and avoided eye contact with me for the remainder of the flight.
They don’t have the right to act rudely and spoil other people’s experiences just because they’re newlyweds. What do you think? Did I make the correct decision?
