I had to give my brother and his wife a very hard lesson when they left our mother at the airport to go on vacation.
I was taken aback when my brother and his wife made the decision to take a week-long holiday because, for the first time in a long time, he wanted to bring our mother along. His words sounded as if humanity and concern had returned. However, I was aware that his wife, who has a challenging personality, opposed the plan. I overheard the sister-in-law attempting to persuade my brother that the journey would be “too uncomfortable” because Mom had been in a wheelchair for a long time.
She said, “You realize we can’t keep an eye on your mom during the entire vacation. Let’s try again next time.”
However, my brother persisted. Despite my concerns, I assisted Mom in getting ready. After carefully packing her belongings, I escorted them to the airport and bid them farewell. Mom was grinning because she was glad her son had remembered her.
“They took off without me.”
Mom shook her voice.
“They claimed I was with them, but the sister-in-law said she would check us in first and then come get me when they boarded. She simply vanished. Then I noticed them via the glass of the airplane. I remained here while they flew away. By themselves.
I was shocked by what I heard. Returning to the airport, I ran. Mom was crying and bewildered as she sat in the waiting room with her suitcase while still wearing her coat. I gave her a firm hug since I was upset at how rude and cruel they had been to her.
Then it occurred to me that I needed to correct that brash woman and let her know that you cannot treat an elderly person in such a manner
Our parents’ home was the residence of my brother and his spouse. Mom tried to be a decent mother-in-law, never got involved, and put up with a lot. However, I now realized that there was nothing more to put up with.
I talked to Mom when they were away on vacation. She signed the house over to me without hesitation.
“I know you won’t abandon me at the airport like worthless luggage because you are my daughter.”
We had the house now. lawfully. formally. And justly.
My brother and his wife came back a week later, tanned, content, and full of pictures. However, I was at the door waiting for them.
“Get your belongings. Live in a place where family is still important. You no longer have a place here.
The sister-in-law let out a shriek. In danger. My brother made an effort to clarify. However, it was too late.
Mom drank tea while sitting near the window. She grinned. For real this time.
