Stories of people abandoning their pets are sadly still a common theme in 2020, but it isn’t often that the owner is caught in the act when they’re doing the abandoning. But that’s exactly what happened this very month when a woman was caught abandoning her dog via somebody’s house security camera. The heartless woman can be seen taking her dog out of her car and walking into a nearby forest with him as if she’s simply taking him for a walk.
- But then, in a sick move, she turns and runs back to her car, leaving her dog behind. The woman quickly drives off before her dog can comprehend what has happened, but unlucky for her, the whole thing had been caught on camera!

Thanks to the video footage showing her actions, the sweet dog was taken to a nearby rescue shelter, whilst the woman was charged for her offense.
The incident took place at a park in Vancouver, Washington, and it was filmed by a camera on a house that overlooked one of the park’s entrances. The woman pulled up in a gray Tesla before opening the backdoor and inviting her yellow lab to get out of the car. It was as if she was simply taking him for a walk in the park, and the excited dog obediently got out and waited for the woman to begin walking.
But as the dog waits on the pavement, the woman gets back into the driver’s seat and closes her door.
It’s as if she’s thinking about driving off at that very moment. But the woman seems to have a change of heart, and a few seconds later she opens her door and steps back out of her car. She then walks towards the opening of the forest, and her dog follows eagerly.
However, as soon as the woman and the dog reach the opening, the woman turns and heads back towards her car. She soon breaks into a run and doesn’t glance back at all as she hurries to get into her car. She then drives away, leaving her dog behind.
Thankfully, the owners of the security camera spotted the woman’s disgusting actions on their footage and got in touch with I Paw’d It Forward, a volunteer-based service that provides lost and found pet services to Clark County, WA and surrounding areas.
The service instantly jumped into action and collected the dog to take to a rescue shelter, meanwhile sharing the video onto their Facebook page inquiring if anyone could identify the heartless woman. They posted:
“This woman thought the best way to get rid of a dog, was to take him to Orchards Park in Vancouver, WA tonight and leave him there to watch her drive off in her Tesla with Oregon Plates. If you recognize this woman, her Tesla, or her dog, please contact us immediately. The dog is an older yellow lab. If you know a woman that drives a Tesla with Oregon Plates, who likes to wear spandex pants and owned a Yellow Lab, please, contact us PRIVATELY with any information.”
In no time, the video instantly went viral and was viewed by thousands.
Thanks to the help of many that viewed and shared the video, less than 24 hours later, justice was served. The page shared in an update that the woman had been identified and cited for Animal Cruelty in the 2nd degree.
Alongside a video showing the aftermath of the dog’s abandonment, they also shared an important message that touched our hearts:
“THIS. This is what a dog that has just been abandoned looks like. They are still here. They are still waiting. They are still searching for you to return. They are confused. They do not understand why the humans they devoted their lives to, have disappeared. Most of the time, we don’t catch them right after they are left. Most of them never make it home. We do our best to recover as many as we can, but we know we are just a small blip on the grand scheme of it.”
The message continued with:
“There is no reason to do this. None. There are a bunch of excuses, but no reasons. There are a whole slew of options available if you decide your dog is not for you, or your life has changed, or whatever you have convinced yourself is what you need.
Here is what I would ask of you: Instead of dumping your dog somewhere, offer him/her the same courtesy you offered him when you adopted him. If you need to rehome him, ok. But be patient. Find the right home. Reach out to the rescues in your area. Contact the Humane Society and schedule a surrender. If they say you need to wait your turn and it could be 2-3 weeks, wait. Do right by them.”
