We always want to save every stray dog we meet on the street.
It’s heartbreaking to see them without a home and no food to eat. They find shelter in sheds, under cars, or just about anything that gives them shade. And who knows what diseases and parasites they have? We all know they need a little help from humans.
When Olena Pyanov found this dog in a gas station, she and her team stepped up to help.
Love Furry Friends is an animal rescue organization that has rescued many stray animals and found them forever homes. Most of the time, the process is not easy and could be costly, just like this case with the dog named Nyusha, who’d been living at the gas station for years.
They saw the dog at the gasoline station many times.
Olena and her team tried to take her home with them, but she always seemed scared. Nyusha would run underneath a parked car when they tried to get her.
For six months, Olena attempted to lure the dog with food, and by acting sweet and gentle. But no matter how much she tried, the poor thing didn’t trust her enough.
Olena and her team refused to give up. However, they were also very careful since the gas station was near the street, and they didn’t want the dog to get frightened and run into it.
Then, a man arrived one day who Nyusha was obviously very fond of.
The man cut the grass at the gas station, and Nyusha seemed drawn to him. She went near him and allowed him to pet her. Olena took this as the best opportunity to finally get a hold of Nyusha – and she did!
She then took her home and attended to her every need.
Olena noticed that Nyusha still hid under her bed. But come mealtime, the little dog would come out in a heartbeat and eat like there’s no tomorrow. She had an appetite, and Olena was happy to see that.
Olena also took Nyusha for some well-deserved TLC.
She took her to the vet to ensure that she didn’t have any diseases, to get her shots, and to get treated for any parasites. She also took Nyusha for some grooming. After all that, she looked so much better – like she was a different dog!
They also noticed how shy and socially awkward the pup was.
So, Olena and Love Furry Friends took her to different activities where Nyusha could get used to constant interaction. They took her to the café and taught her how to behave, especially when eating outside. They also walked her at the park, which took her days to get used to.
Eventually, Nysuha seemed to grow accustomed to all of the newness and was loving every moment of it.
She became friends with Olena’s dog, Mimi. It turns out that this scared dog at the gas station was actually a sweet, affectionate one! She was ready to be put up for adoption.
