‘We’re just doing our best’- Single dad raises infant quadruplets after his wife is called to Heaven

Erica and Carlos Morales’ love story has elements of a fairy tale. In the course of a night out in a nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2006, the two initially met. He invited her to dance with him despite the fact that he didn’t know any English and that she had trouble comprehending his Spanish.

Carlos wrote his phone number on a piece of paper as they decided to call it a night, but he subsequently discovered that Erica had thrown it away.

The two reconnected through common friends about a year later, but this time they stayed together. What’s more, they decided to get married shortly after he acquired English and she learned Spanish.

They both desired to have children and made attempts to conceive, but Erica miscarried. They called it the worst and most painful experience of their life. But after Erica had a reproductive procedure, some fantastic news appeared. The couple was expecting four children, not just one.

Erica and Carlos were eagerly anticipating the day they would be able to hold their precious babies in their arms. The expectant mother’s pregnancy had been going well until she had high blood pressure and had to be transported to the hospital.

Erica texted her husband on January 15 to let him know that the doctors were going to deliver the babies immediately away. She was seven months along in her pregnancy at the time.

Carlos explains, “The doctor said she was having too many contractions and it was time to deliver the babies.” She was surrounded by family and friends while we shot pictures and videos before she entered the delivery room. ‘Let’s get these babies out,’ I said to her.

Everything was prepared for the newborns to enter the world. Even the names of their children were discussed by the couple. Carlos Jr. was chosen for the male, and Tracey and Paisley were chosen for the two girls. For the fourth baby, they were short one name, but because they couldn’t decide, they agreed to think about it later, figuring they had plenty of time.

Unfortunately, events changed course.

Carlos gave Erica a kiss on the head and said, “Let’s get these babies out,” before escorting her to the delivery room.
After the birth, Carlos visited his devoted wife. When she squeezed his palm, several medical professionals entered Erica’s room as equipment alarms started to sound.

They broke the most devastating news an hour later. There was little that could be done when Erica entered hypovolemic shock, an emergency situation in which significant blood or other fluid loss prevents the heart from pumping enough blood to the body. Mother of four passed away.

Carlos was hearing things that he couldn’t believe. Then his wife stopped being fine. She abruptly left the scene. Devastated Carlos lamented, “I went from having the best day of my life to the next morning experiencing the worst day of my life.” “My wife passed away, then my four children were born.”

He was overcome with sorrow and pain, but he knew he had to be strong for his four tiny angels. After her mother, the fourth child was given the name Erica.

Carlos discovered a note in his late wife’s iPad some time later. Erica made a list of her wishes for her kids. She wished for them to finish college, become bilingual in English and Spanish, and land respectable employment. Even though his wife is no longer with us, Carlos made a pledge today to be the best father his kids could ask for and to do everything in his ability to fulfill his late wife’s dream.
