Waiter frustrated with $3.28 tip. Eyes go wide receiving unexpected letter days later

There is only one chance to make a good first impression, but when these kids realized their error, they made every effort.

Four teenagers were being served by a server in Los Angeles, who made sure their evening was wonderful. He then got a less than favorable tip. The fact that children and other individuals don’t grasp the etiquette of leaving a generous tip for hard work dismayed and infuriated the waiter.

He shared on social media how it affected him as a server when the teenagers only left him a $3.28 tip:

Nothing is more upsetting than receiving little to no gratuity from a customer who is grinning and thanking me excessively as they leave. But suddenly, something completely unanticipated occurred!

He received the following letter about a week later:

“On October 7, almost a week and a half ago, my three friends and I came to this restaurant to eat as our personal homecoming celebration. Being here by ourselves and seeing everything for the first time was exhilarating for us.

And you provided us with the greatest service possible. You were considerate, accommodating, and polite. You didn’t treat us like babies, and you even adjusted the menu to accommodate all of my food sensitivities! I wanted to express my gratitude for making our “growing up” experience so wonderful and enjoyable.

In addition, I’d want to apologize on our group’s behalf. Our 13-year-old minds didn’t precisely know how to handle the bill because we were unfamiliar with everything. You did a great job of dividing the check and accepting our less-than-preferred cash.

Even though the cost was modest, we completely forgot what a tip was and didn’t know how much to leave. After emptying our pockets, we discovered that we had $3.28 in total.

“We departed without realizing how little this actually was and without knowing what we had given you in exchange for all your hard work.

We discovered our error afterwards and felt HORRIBLE. We were aware that we had to fix it.

You’ll find the necessary 18% tip in this envelope along with an additional bonus for being utterly outstanding. We thank you for making our night enjoyable and for your assistance and patience. I’m grateful.

The whole amount was about $100, so a $3.28 tip is less than 4% of that. Thankfully, the teenagers realized their error and took the proper action.

The waiter shared a photo of the letter and some encouraging words online:

“I’ve been serving for a very long time, and neither I nor anyone else has ever experienced anything like this. I’m not sure how you become knowledgeable about tipping, but I genuinely value your effort and generosity. I hope your homecoming was wonderful.

People don’t always go the additional mile to make amends, but when they do, it may make all the difference in the world. This devout waiter really deserved it!
