Ups driver, who forms bond with pit bull while on delivery route, adopts him after owner dies

A mailman approaching a house and being scared away or barked at by a dog has been the subject of numerous cartoons and comic routines, but delivery employees actually make friends with many of the animals they see on a daily basis.

The UPS Dogs Facebook page honors these bonds by featuring several accounts of UPS drivers who not only deliver packages to the dogs, but also food and toys.

Katie Newhouser, like all of the dogs she meets on her daily commute, is one of these drivers, but one in particular has captured her heart.

That special bond would be tested when this lovable pup found himself homeless.

Katie Newhouser adores dogs; she has three of her own and enjoys socializing with the dogs on her delivery route.

However, one dog in particular, Leo, a pit bull, held a special place in her heart.

“He’d start barking as soon as I walked into the condo complex……” “Whenever I came to a stop, he would always jump inside my truck,” Katie said on Facebook.

Tina, Leo’s owner, told Katie that her son found Leo as a puppy and that he needed to be bottle fed.

Katie received some heartbreaking news.
“They (Tina and Leo) were incredibly close and did everything together,” Katie tells PEOPLE. “I don’t believe dogs ever forget someone close to them.”

Katie, on the other hand, was shocked to learn in July 2017 that her friend Tina, Leo’s mother, had died.

She was worried about what would happen to Leo once the shock wore off, so she contacted Tina’s son Cannon and asked if he would take Leo in. Cannon told her he couldn’t because he was an active service Marine, according to Animal Channel.

‘He and his brother Moose are inseparable,’ the narrator observes.

Katie chose to adopt Leo despite having three dogs of her own.

Katie added, “It was certainly confusing for him at first, but he has adapted well.” “He and his brother Moose are inseparable.” Bailey, his sister, took some time to warm up to him, but they now play together… The entire atmosphere changed when Leo entered the house.”

Katie shared the happy news on the UPS Dogs Facebook page, where she received hundreds of likes and comments from people congratulating Leo on his new home.

Despite missing his mother Tina, Leo has found a new home with someone who adores him.
