Because she adores dogs so much, Oklahoman Hallee Fuqua spent the Thanksgiving holiday working at a nearby dog shelter. She quickly grew close to one of the dogs there, so her father made the decision to surprise her at Christmas with the exact same rescue puppy. She had been requesting a puppy for years, but up until this point, her wish had gone unfulfilled.
Her dad captures the moment she meets her dog companion for the first time, and it’s a very lovely moment.
Rambo, a rescue dog who is a Plott Hound and Mountain Cur mix, captured Hallee’s heart the moment she started helping at the Humane Society in Stillwater. Rambo was always the first person Hallee went to visit as they became close.
The shelter’s director, Jackie Ross-Guerrero, told ABC News that “she would come in and just sit with him.” “They hit it off right away.”
Hallee was aware that her time with Rambo wouldn’t last indefinitely.
She would soon be unable to care for him because a family will soon adopt him. She was truly trying to savor every second she had left with him.
Lance, Hallee’s father, had another idea. He made the decision to covertly adopt Rambo and stage the entire ordeal as a lovely Christmas surprise for his daughter. Their covert adoption operation would be difficult to pull off and need a few small white lies, as Hallee worked in the shelter.
In order for her to believe that he was still up for adoption, Jackie explained, “we told a little white fib when she would come in.”
Two days before to the surprise on Sunday, December 16, Hallee learned via social media that Rambo had been adopted, and according to her father, she was utterly “broken.”
Hallee had no idea that the puppy was indeed hers!
He was able to film Hallee’s response on the day he was supposed to give her her surprise, and he posted the video to a now-viral Facebook post. Her response is so sincere that it is clear why the post has received more than 12,000 likes and 4,000 shares since it was published. It’s such a lovely time!
Hallee opens the door with no idea of what she’s going to see as Lance is seated holding Rambo. She just pauses and looks, obviously in utter disbelief as she takes in the image of her dad holding her favorite dog.
Hallee then sobs as she cuddles with her new dog while Rambo runs over to welcome her.
Is he mine? she says, appearing to be in a state of shock. “Are you kidding?” However, when she understands that Rambo is completely hers, she is unable to control her joyous tears.
Lance leveraged his newfound online celebrity in his Facebook post to entice readers to contribute to the shelter. Reads the caption:
“So, this is the tale. Hallee Fuqua, our daughter, has been requesting a dog for Christmas for years. We advised her to postpone till after her college graduation. She started working as a volunteer at the Stillwater Humane Society. She visited Rambo frequently since she loved him.
Three weeks ago, my wife and I made the decision to adopt him covertly. We managed to keep it a secret with assistance from the Humane Society. This past weekend, she learned that Rambo had been adopted, and she was devastated. So we gave her an early Christmas present on Sunday night as a surprise. We recorded the event on film. Hallelujah, Merry Christmas! #onehappygirl #onehappydog’
Then he made a donation request to help the shelter. What a wonderful father! We’re willing to wager that Hallee will never forget this Christmas.
