In December 2016, Violet the dog was discovered on what appeared to be an abandoned property. She and several other dogs were restrained with extremely heavy metal chains that were not only preventing the canines from moving but were also harming them, as observed by a woman driving by. Violet was roughly two years old when she was discovered, and according to NMDOG founder and director Angela Stell, they believe she may have spent her whole life chained.

In New Mexico, where there is no requirement for human supervision while a dog is chained up, Violet and the other 5 dogs were discovered on the property. They requested that the county security staff visit the location to try and locate the owner, but it appeared that the dog had been abandoned. All of them, including Violet, were taken by NMDOG, and so the path to recovery started.

Stell remarked, “She was very, extremely terrified and yet a little cautious. They think Violet could need to be abused as a result of her actions. The dog is now well and recovering from her emotional ordeals, and once her recovery is complete, the devoted canine will be available for adoption!
