Another Los Angeles Dodgers player has come out against the team’s support of a group of “drag queen nuns.”
The Dodgers invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of drag queen performance artists who dress as nuns, and relief pitcher Blake Treinen, who has played in the major leagues for ten years, expressed his displeasure in a statement through his friend Sean Feucht on Tuesday. The group received a Community Hero Award from the Dodgers as well. The Sisters took part in the LGBT Pride Night for the Dodgers.
Treinen expressed his disappointment at the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence being recognized as heroes at Dodger Stadium. “Many of their performances are blasphemous, and their work simply demonstrates hatred for Catholics and the Christian faith, as well as mocking of it.
“I realize that participating in baseball is a privilege rather than a right. I’ll always put my faith in Jesus Christ first. The Dodgers have been at the forefront of supporting a wide range of organizations ever since I joined the team. However, allowing the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to perform disenfranchises a sizable population and encourages anti-Christian and anti-religious sentiment. The Dodgers, Major League Baseball, and professional sports are all alienated by this one incident.
Baseball is popular because it is entertaining and competitive, according to Treinen. “The fans do not want political or propaganda to be pushed on them. The controversy between Bud Light and Target ought to serve as a reminder to businesses and athletes to uphold their brand values and keep politics and propaganda off the field.
Scripture was used to close out his statement.
“I think that Jesus died on the cross to atone for my sins. As stated in Galatians 6:7, “do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked; a man reaps what he sows,” I firmly believe that the Bible to be accurate. The foundation of my faith, Jesus Christ, is publicly mocked by this group, thus I want to be clear that I do not support or agree with the Dodgers’ choice to ‘celebrate’ the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. However, I and my family will serve the Lord. 24:15 in Joshua.
He was first in win probability added (6.3) and fourth in saves (38) in Major League Baseball in 2018 while pitching for Oakland.
Clayton Kershaw, a teammate, had blasted the Dodgers for hosting the group.
Kershaw stated, “I don’t agree with making light of other people’s religions. Nothing else is related to it save that. No of what religion you practice, in my opinion it is inappropriate to mock someone else’s faith. Therefore, I categorically disagree with that.
