Devoted cat walks 12 miles to reunite with family that abandoned him

Cats can be just as devoted to the people they love as dogs, who are renowned for being the most ‘loyal’ of pets.

Toby the cat is the best example of that.

Toby desired his family even if they were no longer interested in him.
Toby’s family abandoned him, but at least they managed to find him a new house.

Toby arrived at this family’s door as a stray but didn’t get along with their other cats, said the SPCA of Wake County.

Toby was thus given to a new family.

Toby wasn’t prepared for a new home and a new family, however, which was the one drawback.

To get back to his former residence, he walked 12 miles.
Toby’s family requested that they put him to death at the shelter rather than being moved by his gesture of kindness.

According to Tara Lynn, the SPCA of Wake County’s director of communications, “they took him to a shelter and asked them to euthanize him.”

“Knowing that he made it all the way back to his family and that was their reaction was just so terrible,” the author said.

Toby’s story was taken to heart by the shelter, and they refused to put him down.
Instead, they made a call to the SPCA, who came to rescue Toby right immediately and saw to it that he received a medical evaluation and was headed in the direction of a permanent home.

He had an upper respiratory infection and had tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus, according to Lynn.

“After some time, we managed to treat him for the infection.”

It took him a little bit to warm up to the other residents, despite the fact that he was incredibly loving, sweet, and friendly with the SPCA’s personnel.
The seven-year-old FIV positive cat was reluctant to share a room with other cats at first, but he quickly won over volunteers, according to the SPCA.

Toby’s photo was shared on social media after he had fully recovered and was prepared to find a forever home.

The phone was nonstop with requests to adopt Toby.
To check if she and Toby would get along, Raleigh, North Carolina resident Michele Puckett sprinted over to the shelter.

They immediately clicked!

Regarding Puckett, Lynn remarked, “She had absolutely no reservations.” “She just abandoned everything to come here when she was on a job site.”

Toby now has two new human siblings and two feline cousins.
Puckett told The Dodo, “He is just so nice, cuddling and loving. He has practically taken over our bed and acts as though he has been here forever. He enjoys unwinding by lying on our pillows.

It is comforting to know that Toby has found a loving home where he is cared for, accepted, and feels like a member of the family.
Puckett remarked that it was “very difficult to comprehend how someone could have dropped him over to be put to death like they did.” Although shocking, we are incredibly glad that he was saved.

She wants Toby’s story to highlight how crucial it is to give other animals, like Toby, a second chance at life.

Many animals are just discarded by their owners or a breeder, according to Puckett. “I sincerely hope he encourages others to adopt,”

Toby’s new mother ultimately got her desire, as Toby’s tale spread widely and was covered by numerous media sites.
“We’ve spent the past 36 hours taking calls from media outlets around the nation, including newspapers, websites, and TV stations, regarding Toby the cat. The SPCA commented on April 19: “We initially published Toby’s story on Facebook in March to promote the 2018 Dog Walk and Woofstock festival, which takes place on May 6.

His message generated a lot of feedback, but it wasn’t until he was adopted that his story truly took off on social media and became widely known throughout the world, including in New Zealand, Italy, Canada, and South America.

We’re so happy that Toby has a beautiful location to call home and that he has so many supporters all across the world!
