A high school football player accompanies his great-grandmother to prom, and the cute couple turns heads.

Delores Dennison never received a prom invitation. That’s because she dropped out of West Virginia’s high school before graduating or attending the dance.

But at the ripe old age of 89, her prom aspirations were fulfilled courtesy to her great-grandson.
Austin Dennison, 19, invited his great-grandmother to go to his prom with him. Yes, she replied.

The high school football player told Times Bulletin, “I asked Grandma if she would be my date to the prom and she stated that she would be honored.” I assured her that I would welcome the opportunity.

Recently, Delores experienced both a heart attack and a stroke.

She promised her great-grandson that if she felt well enough by the time prom night rolled around, she would go with him.

Thank goodness Delores felt better.
She was able to lavishly prepare for her prom. She went shopping for a new dress, and Austin also bought her a pearl necklace to match.

Austin opened the evening by singing “Iris” by the Goo Good Dolls to his great-grandmother.

They then left for supper at Bob Evans, one of Delores’ favorites.
They then took a few pictures before leaving for the dance.

When they arrived at the dance, they were able to dance to “Delores,” a song by Frank Sinatra that Dolores’ late husband Edward used to sing to her.

Even the dance floor seemed a touch competitive.
Austin’s friend asked if he may dance with Delores and interject.

Delores, though, was not having it. She wanted a break since she was a little too exhausted to dance.

After hearing a tale from his instructor about someone doing the same thing, Austin claimed he got the notion to take Delores to the prom.
Dennison added, “Mr. Minnich informed me that his elder brother had brought his grandmother to the prom.

The Dennisons apparently received a standing ovation as they entered the dance floor.
Delores told Times Bulletin, “We returned home just after 9 p.m., later than I go to bed these days. “He gave me a pearl necklace,” I said. “He was really kind.”

Delores and Austin concurred that they were having the time of their life.
It was a fantastic evening for the great-grandmother, one she had never had before. She stated to ABC News:

“I can’t say that I even recall proms. Just getting over the sadness, you know, and all that. Even if there had been one, which I can’t even recall, I couldn’t have afforded to go.

For any of them, the evening could not have been more ideal. Austin expressed his gratitude for having grandparents and great-grandparents.

especially those with such vast knowledge and fascinating anecdotes to share. Austin and Delores’ extravagant night out ended up going viral and being covered by several news outlets.
