A bronze statue honors Istanbul’s beloved street cat.

Everyone in Istanbul adored a street cat by the name of Tombili. He was relaxing on the side of the road when he was photographed by a bystander. As the image was published on the well-known website 9GAG, it soon became viral because he appeared so carefree and laid-back. From that point on, he was regarded as the local mascot. He was fed and taken care of even though he lived on the streets.


Tombili grew unwell and finally died away. They were devastated since he was loved by everyone and was often seen roaming the streets of Istanbul. To honor Tombili, 17,000 people signed a petition asking for the construction of a bronze statue of the feline in the same location as the photo that made him famous.
The city of Istanbul complied with this popular demand, and today there is a bronze statue honoring Tombili at the location where he first gained notoriety online.

After being uploaded on the well-known website 9GAG, a picture of a street cat curled up on the side of the road quickly became famous.

People have been treating the cat like family ever since the photo went viral, and he has subsequently taken on the role of the local mascot.

Everyone was devastated when Tombili fell unwell and ultimately passed away. One person even said on social media, “You will live in our hearts. Tombili, the beloved street mascot, shut his eyes to life on August 1st after losing his fight for life after a month.
