Volunteers from the Howl of a Dog group carried out a sterilization day in rural Romania, where they saw a homeless dog starving for love and attention; the dog waited for them in the same spot every day.
Every morning, he welcomed them with sparkling eyes and his tail wagging cheerfully. The dog, named ‘Remy,’ bore physical evidence of his rough existence.
The animal was branded with scorching iron on its nose, which, according to beliefs in rural Romania, strengthens its immune system and prevents disease; sadly, this superstitious practice is widespread in the region.
The dog was missing a huge portion of its ear, and no one in town could tell the volunteer what had happened to the poor animal, nor did he perceive any interest in assisting him in finding a home.
The workers at the shelter feel that the townspeople’s lack of interest in the dog is due to the fact that in these rural places, dogs are perceived as work machines, and a pleasant dog like Remy is deemed useless.
A grocery store owner used to feed him and let him sleep outside her store, but she never appeared to provide the gentle cat a home.
Remy, who had previously been taught to be ignored by the residents of the town, couldn’t disguise his delight at getting attention from the volunteers who came to his community, therefore he was there every morning to meet them.
The volunteers discovered Remy had no one and decided to take him to the shelter with them. Remy was vaccinated, sterilized, and, most importantly, he received affection and care for the first time in his life.
In this video, you can see the volunteer with Remy:
Remy was placed for adoption after his recovery. Howl of a Dog said on Facebook that the dog has found a home and is now content with his new family.
