Soon the vets noticed there was something wrong as the puppy couldn’t move properly. Turned out, Petey had cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition meaning his cerebellum isn’t fully developed.
“This can occur due to genetic causes or infections in the mother during development,” Dr. Laurie Siperstein-Cook, a veterinarian at the Sacramento SPCA, told The Dodo. “The signs include head bobbing, clumsiness and falling.”
However, Petey is still one playful dog: “He’s rambunctious, curious and silly,” Westphal-Thomson, doggie’s foster mom, said. “He’s also very confident and enjoys meeting new people….”
He learned to eat on his own, and loves to run around and cuddle. The abandoned puppy was soon adopted by a loving couple who absolutely adore him, and won’t ever leave him because he’s different.
