It’s fantastic to take a shelter dog home, but it comes with a lot of responsibilities. When you adopt a dog, you commit to keeping them as a member of your family for their whole lifespan.
But, not every family shares that perspective, and recently one dog was given back to the shelter for a tragic cause. Fortunately, he has now found a warm new home.
According to The Dodo, Twinkle was discovered as a stray on the streets of Miami and then sent to True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission in June.
She was severely underweight and in bad health, but with a little tenderness and care, Twinkle’s life quickly improved.
She put on weight, and what a darling she turned into! The president and creator of the rescue, Lisa Letson, told The Dodo. She was adopted by a beautiful family at the beginning of September, and they seemed fantastic.
Nevertheless, it turned out that Twinkle’s happy ending was unreal. At Christmastime, four months after taking Twinkle home, the family gave her back.
Twinkle continued attempting to sleep in bed with her new parents, but they strictly prohibited dogs from sleeping in beds, so they chose to just take her back to the shelter.
After being unexpectedly returned to the shelter just a few months after it appeared that she had found a home, poor Twinkle was “heartbroken and bewildered.”
Madison Mulvihill, the social media coordinator, recalled that “she looked at you with such uncertainty on her face and anguish in her heart.”
“When she came back, the owners handed her over the fence. We struggle to understand why someone would do this to her, and she kept turning to face that barrier.
Yet, following that devastating setback, things started to improve. Twinkle’s tragic tale garnered a lot of compassion and support online, and the rescue quickly got an application for adoption.
The family traveled all the way from South Carolina to meet Twinkle, and it turned out to be the ideal match, according to a TikTok released by the rescue.
Twinkle may play with the other dogs in the household, and even better, the new owners claim Twinkle is welcome to lie on their bed whenever she pleases.
The rescue was overjoyed to find that Twinkle, a loving senior dog, had finally found the ideal permanent home after trying twice.
According to Mulvihill, “This senior will be living out the rest of [her] life understanding what genuine love [is].”
While it is difficult to see someone give up their dog in such a way, we are happy Twinkle was adopted by a new family that accepts her just the way she is.
