Abandoned dog chases strangers’ car and finds herself a loving forever home

Do you ever wonder why people always urge you to travel? Despite your misgivings and explanations as to why ‘now isn’t a good time’ and ‘you don’t have enough resources,’ they insist you grab every opportunity you can to head out and see the world. It may take a while, but you’ll eventually realize they were right.

Traveling opens your world to new possibilities, beautiful beginnings, and countless opportunities to make an impact.

Martina Russo and her partner, Fil, were driving along the Spanish countryside in the Granada province when they noticed a small dog chasing them. Assuming the dog was being playful like most dogs are when they spot moving cars, they didn’t think much of it.

However, the dog kept pursuing them. The couple took this as a sign that the Shorkie was reaching out in its way.

True enough, when they pulled over, the puppy immediately jumped into their arms. It wasn’t in its best shape – overgrown fur, ticks all over, basically the dog needed their help. Martina told SWNS,

“We were driving in the middle of the Spanish countryside, and suddenly this dog appeared out of nowhere and started chasing our car. We thought it was just a game but soon realized something wasn’t right because she was running fast and would not stop.”

The couple then gave the poor dog food and water before they brought her to a couple of nearby villages in hopes of finding its owner. Despite their efforts, Martina and Fil could not find its owner. They ended up adopting the dog and naming it Moxie.

“We asked all the farmers around and the local shelter, but no one knew her. We also checked every house and farm in the area, but most of them were abandoned. We drove back and put her back on the road to see if she was chasing for fun and knew where to walk back. But she kept chasing us – our van was just around the corner, and we drove very slowly to make sure she wasn’t stressed.”

Lucky for Moxie, Martina and Fil were in the right place at the right time!

Martina adds,

“We took her to the vet the next day, and it turns out she was not chipped, not spayed, female, about one-year-old, fur very overgrown and full of gunk around the eyes. We kept on searching for her owners in local Facebook and Whatsapp groups, local passersby at the fountain, and shops, but eventually weeks went by, and no one came forward, so we decided to keep her.”

From wandering the streets alone, hungry, and needing grooming and TLC, Moxie is now a happy traveler, roaming around Europe with Martina and Fil.

It didn’t take long for Martina to fall in love with Moxie.

“She’s very sweet and funny, very playful, loves our cats – to be fair, she loves everything and everyone! We love taking her on adventures, and she makes us laugh every day. Moxie lives in a van with us most of the year, so she comes with us on long hikes in the mountains or when we go climbing. Every day is a new adventure for Moxie now.”
