69-Year-Old Sings Just 5 Words From 1966 Classic and All The Judges Hit Their Buzzers on The Voice Senior

Judge Is Astounded By Singing Senior’s “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World”
Today’s stage is crowded with new performers eager to succeed in the spotlight. You’ve definitely noticed something, though: Seniors aren’t as well-represented, which is a sad tragedy.

With the introduction of “The Voice Senior,” a talent competition just for seniors, “The Voice” is now changing all of that. Participants in the competition must be 60 years of age or older. The world is paying attention to this notion because it has genuinely reached its zenith.

For Jimi Bellmartin, “The Voice Senior” couldn’t have come at a better moment. You’ll hear why the sixty-nine-year-old soul singer who won Season 1 of The Voice Senior and garnered the most votes was chosen as the winner when you hear him sing.

Five words into his song, Jimi channels the late Godfather of Soul James Brown so flawlessly that all the judges punched their buzzers and turned around to indicate they wanted him on their side.

Jimi’s family was watching on a monitor backstage in the meantime. Even though they undoubtedly knew he was talented, they are nonetheless completely taken aback when the coaches turn around so early in the performance. You may see (and hear) for yourself by watching the video of Jimi’s outstanding performance that we have released.

The 69-year-old singer’s audition song was “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” by Betty Jean Newsome and James Brown. On February 16th, 1966, Brown started recording it, and later that year, he released it as a single. On the Billboard R&B chart, it peaked at No. 1, while on the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at No. 8. Its name is a pun on the comedy movie “It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” from 1963.

For the remainder of his career, “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World” became a mainstay of Brown’s live performances. It was ideal for lengthy, open-ended performances that included spoken reflections on love and loss as well as occasionally interpolated passages from other songs due to its slow, simmering groove and declamatory vocal line.

Jimi has been singing his entire life, but he has never experienced a breakthrough. It appeared to be achievable in the 1980s up to the illness of his mother.

According to Jimi, she has been in my care for at least eight years. “I had to decide between looking after my mum and being famous. The decision was simple. Always put your mum first. As a result, Jimi took care of his mother for about ten years.

“After that, it was difficult for an artist to regain notoriety. I promised myself that I would start playing again, one gig at a time, but it took a while. His grandchildren persuaded him to enter the talent event so he could get here. I cautioned them against getting too excited because it’s possible that the chairs won’t turn around.

The singer faced up against three equally great opponents in the show’s waning moments: Annet Hesterman (68), Georges Lotze (61), and artist Noble (71), but in the end, the soulful musician was named the competition’s champion.
